Undercurrent, April 12, 2019:
A report published last week by the International Council for the Exploration of the Seas (ICES) has found that the Eastern Baltic cod population has reached such a low level that it can no longer reproduce sufficiently to maintain a healthy stock.
In response, a group of environmental NGOs, including Coalition Clean Baltic, Deutsche Umwelthilfe, Oceana, Our Fish, and WWF, have called upon fisheries ministers in the Baltic states to immediately close fisheries of the species.
